No need to choose between bear and critter protection. The Ursack AllMitey protects your food from all creatures great and small. While our standard Major and Major XL resist being torn by bears, it is prone to small (less than 1/4 inch) punctures/weave separations. The AllMitey is virtually puncture-proof. Not only will it keep out bears teeth and claws it will thwart mice, raccoon, squirrels, pine martens, and other sharp-toothed critters.

Took my Allmitey paired with an Opsak on the Foothills Trail in the Carolinas for a 5 night backpacking trip. I had heard that bears can crush food inside when stored on the ground so I even hung it off the ground a couple feet. On night 2, a bear was able to puncture the bag with its teeth and claws over and over to the point that nearly all of my food inside was destroyed—my backpacking meals inside my Opsak were all punctured and some had teethmarks. Had my hiking companions not had extra food I would have had to bail on the remaining nights. I’m very disappointed in this bag’s performance.
Weight on the scale is actually 10.3 oz. Product specs say 9.5 oz., and box says 13 oz - go figure.
No matter how tight you tie it, there is still a small gap large enough for the smallest of mice to enter.
The sewing job is so rough on the inside that small threads of fabric are constantly abrading off and into the bag, unto the ground, etc.
Took this out for the first time on a 7 day trip and I highly recommend. Easy to use, and it worked wonders, even on sites with lots of critters. Would probably size up for a trip of that length or longer.
We’ve used the Ursack on multiple backpacking trips and it has held up perfectly. We’ve had animals scratch at and try to get into the bag but none have had success. We are very pleased with how easy it is to hang compared to a traditional bear bag.
Took the Ursack with OpSak odor bags into grizzly country for a 4 day backpack, bears in area. Using the Ursack we had no problems. The bag worked very well as it got smaller over the course of the trip so my backpack became easier to pack. My partner had a hardshell bear vault, and his packing was the usual jigsaw puzzle to make everything fit well. It was not tested on a grizzly, however this is my go to form of food management in the backcountry. My only question is the closure system, I could not get it right enough so a mouse could not get in, and I am curious if a bear managed to get their claws or teeth into the opening if they could not get it open. If a grizzly can dig up a 2 foot deep trench to get a squirrel, they may have more them enough strength to chew through the closure system. That being said, I still give it a 5/5.
