This 12 X 20 sealable plastic bag is made from a special film that is 17,000 times more odor-resistant than HDPE. When used properly, the OPSak is 100% water and air tight. New double zip closure. Each bag in the 2 pack weighs about 1 ounce. Use with Ursack to keep bears and other critters from smelling your food.

The bags are considered disposable and will need to be replaced after extended use. The body of the bag will far outlast the closure.  The closure is a lighter weight material in order to ensure pliability to create 100% contact throughout the closure.  The body of the bag is a durable film that will far outlast the closure. The manufacturer of OPSak has to see any bag that a customer claims was defective at the time of purchase. They will only consider reviewing a bag within 30 days of purchase and the bag must be accompanied with a paid invoice/ receipt.

Lasted me about 5 weeks on the PCT

Lasted me 650 miles or about 5 weeks on the PCT I was not gentle. The seal didn't break I was careless and punched a huge hole in it packing by bag lol. Great product

I was getting a couple replacements. They seal in smells very well.

Not durable

I got an opsak to put in my ursack for an 8 day backpacking trip in bear country. I tried to baby it after reading about the durability issues, but the locking seal still delaminated on the 3rd day. I ended up having to fold the bag over best I could. Wouldn't recommend this product.

They’ve worked for me for a lot of long wilderness trips

I started using these bags whenever Ursacks first came out. My husband was an early adapter and we went on numerous XC 10 day trips in the Sierra, including YOSE and SEKI. I and my pack are too small for ‘approved’ cannisters but luckily, no problems yet. I am scrupulous about keeping scented items in them as are my friends who join me. When I hiked 500 miles on the PCT thru major bear country; Hwy 80 to Cottonwood pass I had 2 Ursacks in my ULA and now Gossamer Gear packs (yes they are full!) and am very diligent about packing and sealing the bags, tying knots to trees away from camp, etc. I don’t put sharp things in them! Sometimes my hands get tired from pressing/sealing them and after 3 or ? years or so I buy a few new ones. I believe them on their smell tests.. why would they lie? Skill and care will go a long way to avoid operator error.

Best option out there

OpSak is a sturdy, lightweight way to pack food in a way that doesnt require hanging and doesnt attract bears. We’ve been using them for a few years now. I always keep a spare because the zip lock closures do not last forever. We seem to get about 2 seasons out of them though and then they get retired to store veggies in my fridge.
