No need to choose between bear and critter protection. The Ursack Allmitey Grizzly Edition protects your food from all creatures great and small. I have been using the URSAK Almighty then the Almighty Grizzly for a number of years since they were first was introduced. While the original dual Velcro closure was a nice feature, the standard closure method works just fine. Simply follow the instructions for a sealing closure to function properly. I’ve never had any critter issues large or small. Proper usage protocol is the key. Excellent storage option when a rigid canister is not required or there is no known bear activity.
I use mine in Algonquin, closes just fine without velcro. Just double overhand knot, there is zero gap. Hang using figure 8 knot, easy.
The regular 10L almighty weight 9.6 oz on my scale, so sizing up to 20L adds just over 4 oz
I was just about to buy this when I couldn't see how it is securely closed. If it's just tied with the cord that comes with it, I can't see how it is effective at all. Please delete this if there is a secure closure. If there isn't a way to securely enclose things, can you explain why and how items are kept untouched by animals?
My first, smaller Ursack AllMitey came with a hook and loop closure just inside the bag under the drawstring closure. To me, that is what made it impenetrable to little critters. I raised mice once and can attest that they can squeeze through holes smaller than a dime. Like Robert, I purchased mine from REI so I'm not sure if this was just a special (less effective?) version created for REI or what but I will be returning it as I am buying this primarily for small critter resistance (being bear resistant is just a bonus).
I'm very excited for this bear bag (no more days of lobbing rocks at high branches late at night!). However, the package describes the AllMitey Grizzly as weighing 13.8 oz. I weighed the bag on my kitchen scale and it reads 14.84 oz. I was questioning how the 10L AllMitey sack could weigh 13 oz and a bag double the size would weigh only 0.8 oz more. It is possible that my scale is not calibrated and I do not have the AllMitey 10 L to also weigh. Despite this discrepancy, I'm very happy I chose the larger bag - for just ~2 oz more I get double the storage space. Can't wait to test this out in the backcountry!
